I’ve never played Minecraft.
I don’t have a PS4 or an Xbox 1 and I’m not a PC gamer. I own a Wii U and a 3DS. Thats it.
However, I have played a couple of Minecraft clones that have appeared on the Wii U and 3DS. And I have to say….I’m not impressed.
Sure, yes, building is fun, but the blocky graphics are pretty cheesy and the clones story modes have not been good at all. Is Minecraft better? I have no idea. Some people seem to go crazy for Minecraft. Thats fine. There are a bunch of people who want Minecraft on the Wii U for whatever reason. I think its great that the system is finally getting the game. It’ll make some people happy hopefully.
But, please, get it out of your head that the Wii U needs Minecraft. The Wii U doesn’t need Minecraft. Nintendo already has the coolest building game on the block and thats Super Mario Maker. There are also a bunch of other games already on the Wii U eshop, from retail games to Indie games. If you’re not playing your Wii U, you are missing out big time.
I heard some people are saying its “time to dust off your Wii U” on twitter. Really?! Come on. You haven’t been playing the great Indie eshop games or Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Fatal Frame, Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8….etc??? Heck, I use my Wii U every day to watch Netflix or Amazon Prime. I look on the internet and watch youtube. And I’m reviewing new Indie games for the Wii U constantly. Granted I only have one console. Many of you have a PS4 too. It must be so hard to keep up with all those games!
For me, its hard just to keep up with Wii U games. I’m not sure how people with multiple consoles do it. I guess thats why some people think the Wii U needs games, cause they are too busy paying attention to other consoles and not focusing on the Wii U. Take a break from the PS4 and count the Wii U games people!
The Wii U doesn’t need Minecraft. Thats not to say that Minecraft on the Wii U isn’t a big announcement. And thats not to say that we won’t take the game anyway. Well, ok, I probably won’t download it unless I get a review copy (thats very unlikely). Still, I can see that Minecraft will be a hit on the Wii U; it’ll sell a lot of copies. I’d be a fool to think it wouldn’t. But if you think that this will be the coolest thing on the Wii U ever and that it’ll “save” the system, you are wrong. The Wii U doesn’t need “saving”.
The Wii U just needs you to wake up and start playing it again (or for the first time). There are plenty of games on the Wii U. My advice: buy yourself a boat load of Wii U retail and eshop games this holiday season. You won’t regret it.
Oh and buy Minecraft if you must.
