We have now learned that the Nintendo Switch has passed the 500k sales mark in japan. It only took four weeks for the Switch to sell 519,504 units in Japan alone! In comparison it took the PS4 seven weeks to reach 500k.
Surprisingly though, as of now it is selling slower the Wii U did in it’s first month. The Wii U sold 557,901 units in the first four weeks. However the Switch seems to be more desired than the Wii U was, but time will tell on if the Switch sells better than the Wii U.
It’s also worth noting that the Wii U launched in November, during the holidays which is one of the biggest shopping periods of the year and the Switch launched in March, normally a slow month when it comes to gaming. But the Switch is doing a great job at both targeting a wide and diverse market and having better marketing and it doesent hurt that the Switch launched with one of the best Zelda games of all time! We will have to wait and see if the Switch keeps up this momentum in the following months, especially with Mario Kart and Splatoon coming extremely soon.
