The momentum continues
NPD Group sales numbers show that Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console for the second consecutive month in a row in North America. During this time, the Switch sold more than 280,000 consoles during the month of April. This is after the Switch had sold over 906,000 units in March.
Alongside the Switch console, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe because the best-selling video game in the month of April, with over 460,000 physical copies and 90,000 digital ones, for a total of more than 550,000 units. Surprisingly, NPG Group tracks sales until the 29th of April, which means Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was able to accomplish all of that in a mere two days, following its release on the 28th of April.
Overall, with more than 280,000 Switch units sold, and over 68,000 3DS handheld sold, Nintendo collectively made up nearly half of all video game console sales in April. All of this considering Nintendo has so far been unable to keep up with demand for the Switch, instantly selling out whenever it becomes available.
With E3 just around the corner, the release of ARMS less than a month away, and rumors swirling around of possible games for Switch like Pokémon Stars, Smash Bros., and even Mario x Rabbids, it is safe to say that Nintendo will continue to ride this momentum all throughout the summer and into the Holidays.
