The Next Best Thing
There is no denying that Metroid is one of Nintendo’s most beloved franchises and that fans have been clamoring for a new installment year after year. After Metroid: Other M had a sub-par reception, Nintendo has been reluctant to release a new game in the series, with the only installment being Metroid Prime: Federation Force, which is hardly based on previous Metroid games and which I consider should have never be released.
With E3 just around the corner and Retro Studios’ game still a mystery, there is still hope that Metroid will be coming to the Nintendo Switch, but until then, Switch is receiving the next best thing.
Axiom Verge Multiverse Edition has been announced for the Nintendo Switch. Famous for its similarities to the Metroid games of the NES and SNES era, Axiom Verge is coming this August, and with it, an announcement trailer has been released:
The Multiverse Edition will retail for $30 and includes the following:
- Copy of Axiom/Verge on cartridge
- Making-of documentary by 2 Player Productions
- Deluxe Booklet with developer’s commentary and art
- Double-sided poster with the world map and weapons/items in the game
- Soundtrack CD (Available only on Nintendo Switch)
Axiom Verge is considered one of the best Metroidvania games ever made for its action, gameplay, and throwback to a beloved era.
