It’s the end of an era in Japan, as the New Nintendo 3DS is ending production. The handheld was released in 2014, alongside the New Nintendo 3DS XL.
When it was released, the New Nintendo 3DS featured vast improvements over its predecessor, the Nintendo 3DS. It could read amiibo without the need for additional accessories, and had a secondary control stick, and these features were also found in the XL models. Exlcusive to the New 3DS was interchangeable faceplates and rather lovely colored face buttons.
The New Nintendo 3DS saw wider release in Japan and Europe, while North America could only find the handheld in limited editions. For those concerned about the fate of the New Nintendo 3DS XL, never fear; it appears that production is continuing on, and the Nintendo 2DS XL is arriving soon to North American audiences on July 28th.
