Here we go…again…

Earlier this year, EDGE magazine showed their love and appreciation to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild by giving it a score of 10 on their review, kickstarting what would end up being one of the highest scoring games in video game history and making it a front-runner for ‘Game of the Year’ award.

Fast-forward seven months later and a second game has been awarded a perfect score by EDGE, this time being Super Mario Odyssey:

For those people that are unfamiliar with EDGE Magazine, it is one of the most prominent and prestigious publications out, and their score carries a lot of weight in the industry. So much so that in their 21 year history they’ve only awarded twenty perfect scores. Here’s the full list:

  • Super Mario 64 (1996)
  • Gran Turismo (1997)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998)
  • Halo: Combat Evolved (2001)
  • Half-Life 2 (2004)
  • Halo 3 (2007)
  • The Orange Box (2007)
  • Super Mario Galaxy (2007)
  • Grand Theft Auto IV (2008)
  • LittleBig Planet (2008)
  • Bayonetta (2009)
  • Super Mario Galaxy (2010)
  • Rock Band 3 (2010)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (2011)
  • The Last of Us (2013)
  • Grand Theft Auto V (2013)
  • Bayonetta 2 (2014)
  • Bloodborne (2015)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017)
  • Super Mario Odyssey (2017)

As the Nintendo Switch continues to gain steam, having another perfect score from EDGE for the same system on the same year solidifies this year as one of the greatest launch years  in history, and better than any previous launch.
